1st grade

1st grade ended today.  What a fun year for Bryce.  He got to do so many things this year.  His class went on field trips to see the Polar Express, the zoo, the ice slide and the pumpkin patch.  Bryce really expanded his reading skills as well.  Today I got a letter from his teacher showng his reading results from the Star testing.  He tested at a 4rth grade 8 month level.  It said he tested 98% level of all the 1st graders nationwide.  It just shocks me remembering that little guy who still was not reading at the beginning of kindergarten.  I was worried he would struggle since I had not got him going before school, I now realize it doesn't matter when you get, just that you do.  He makes us proud to see him reach his reading goals at school.  It will be fun to see what goals he will be working on next.
It often shocks me when time goes by how you never notice the subtle changes.  I knew a few months ago his pants suddenly all looked to short, but looking at the comparison shot from the beginning of the year I see how much taller but also so much more grown up in his face.  He is learning so much about the world and really becoming a big kid.  I feel so lucky to get to spend each day with him and share in his journey.

I think its such a great idea that you take a picture at the beginning and ending of the school year. It's so much easier to see how they have changed with the 2 comparisons
